NSW Masters State Long Course Champions for 2025!

Message from our Club Captain Richard Peterson

We have done it again, NSW Masters State Long Course Champions for 2025!  We should all be proud of such a great achievement.

Before I dive in, I would like to thank those for their behind the scenes hard work, Pat Chandler for arranging relays,  Tony Gallagher for trouble shooting, Bridget Cook for arranging the social event and for our volunteer MSNSW officials who ensured a smooth event on the day.

Participation was unprecedented in swimming, timekeeping, warmup supervision and attendance at the social event.

For the record, we won first division with 2068 points, clear winners over Blacktown with 1637 points.

A National Record was broken by Abel Bornstein, 2 Branch Records (Branch = NSW plus ACT) by John Bates and one Branch Record by Jacinta Allsopp. John Bates also won the Peter Gilmour Memorial Trophy for the best Butterfly performance relative to World, National and Branch Records.

The following swimmers were first in their individual events with (NR- National Record, BR - Branch Records) noted:

Based on the above performances, I have nominated Jane Hinton and Marilyn Earp as WM joint swimmers of the meet. (I cant go past 5 swims for 5 gold), but also acknowledge the 100% strike rate of Wendy Cooper (4 swims 4 gold). Congratulations to all of you.

We were also highly successful in the relays, a reflection on our commitment to teamwork and relay participation. Most notably Michel Le Viux swam two legs of a relay...what a champion.

In addition to these great performances, Stewart and I attended the MSNSW annual awards dinner on Saturday Night with some great results...over to you Stewart.....

From our Club President Stewart Heys

A change in format for Masters Swimming NSW saw a contingent take a break from competing to head to Regent St Pavilion after day 1 of the State Championships to attend the MS NSW Annual Presentation Dinner.

Many awards were handed out on the night, with great wins for Campbelltown, Blacktown and memorable wins for the Sutherland Sandberns and the resurgent Gosford Seagulls.

Warringah collected many honours on the night, with club awards for the division 1 overall branch points score, the Brian Hird trophy (for the club that won the most points over all the weekend carnivals held in a calendar year) and the 2024 Club of the Year.

Major individual awards went to Cameron Jones for Official of the Year, and Wilson Gamble, Coach of the Year.

Congratulations to everyone that took part last year. You all contributed to another fantastic year for the club!

Stewart Heys
